International Baccalaureate opens new global centre in The Hague in the Netherlands

The Hague, 31 October 2011 – Today The Hague’s mayor Jozias van Aartsen officially opened the new global centre of the International Baccalaureate (IB), the world’s leading organisation for international education. Van Aartsen: “The Hague welcomes the International Baccalaureate with open arms. Because it is the pupils of the International Baccalaureate of today and tomorrow who will have to give shape to international cooperation, including the fields of peace and justice, in the future. Moreover, international education heightens the attractiveness of The Hague as a location for national and international businesses."

The new global centre of the IB in The Hague supports the IB World Schools across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In total over 200 staff members will be moving to Churchillplein in The Hague. Director General Jeff Beard says;

“The opening of the new global centre in The Hague was an important achievement for the IB. The dedication and commitment from all those involved made the transition a huge success. This achievement represents another step forward in realizing some of the goals in the IB strategic plan and will help us to build a sustainable, responsible and efficient organization for the future, ensuring that our structure is able to support the IB’s growing, diverse community. This is a momentous occasion for the IB and we are very much looking forward to celebrating our official opening.”

Its international image, the presence of multinational corporations, the Dutch government, social organisations and various tribunals make The Hague a natural location for the IB.
