Social media and new technology at the IB Conference of the Americas
This year’s conference will be the largest ever, bringing together nearly 1400 heads of schools, coordinators, teachers, district and school board officials of IB World Schools as well as university and government representatives throughout the Americas.
This year, we have integrated many forms of social media into the conference. This will enhance the conference experience for those attending, and allow those not present to experience the conference virtually. Below is a list of ways you can use social media during the conference:
Delayed streaming: Key speakers, such as Khaled Hosseini and Maria Nieves Tapia, as well as breakout sessions and highlights of the conference will be captured on video and posted to the official conference blog.
Twitter: Four student Tweeters from Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz, Texas-Aruna Kharod, Alexis de la Garza, Gabby Ford, and Jamie Kleypas- will tweet throughout the conference. Attendees are invited to tweet using the hashtag #IBTexas. This will be a great way for attendees and non-attendees alike to read highlights of the event.
App for iPhone: Thanks to Apple, participants will have instant access to the conference schedule, speaker list and maps at their fingertips simply by downloading the free app for iPhone. You can download the app right from the itunes store on your computer or directly from your iphone, ipad, or ipod touch: http://goo.gl/9pkAj
All of these features will be available on the blog created for the IB Conference of the Americas: (http://blogs.ibo.org/conferenceamericas). Tweets are displayed on the right hand column of the website and delayed streaming of events will be accessible from the blog. The student Tweeters will also submit blog posts on different plenary speakers and breakout sessions. The blog links to Facebook and Twitter.
