The IB North America (IBNA) Board, at the recent Board meeting in San Francisco, voted unanimously in favour of legally merging IBNA with the IB.
This is one of the final steps towards integrating various legal entities and governance bodies associated with the IB, allowing for a unified management and governance structure throughout the organization.
President of the IBNA Board of Directors, Carl Amrhein stated, “We realized that IBNA could not move forward in isolation and in order to meet future growth it needed to link in with the IB to benefit from common investments in systems, infrastructure and people. This integration will, over time, permit an enhanced level of support for teachers and schools in the region.”
In line with 2020 planning, a global centre for the Americas will serve North America and Latin America and will receive significant investment for building and implementing an assessment unit, among other initiatives.
Following the vote, chair of the IB Board of Governors Monique Seefried said that, “the IB will benefit from the invaluable expertise of the members on the IBNA Board as they move across to the IB Board and other governance committees.”
The signed merger agreement will be filed with New York authorities and should receive approval within 3 months.
