Category 3 NEW Workshops
The Learning environment and Pedogogy in the PYP
The learning environment in a school should be developed in order to promote good pedagogy and facilitate inquiry. This workshop will look at the learning environment and how teachers are utilizing this space. It will look at space both in and out of the classroom and how this is being used to facilitate inquiry and provoke students to inquire. It will also look at the local environment and how this can be used to enhance units of inquiry.
Science in the PYP
There is no need for stand alone science classes! This workshop will look at the power and place of science knowledge and skills in all of the transdisciplinary themes. Using the key concepts and related concepts, participants will frame central ideas that allow for deep inquiry into relevant, challenging and engaging science. The workshop will also explore the connection between science research and inquiry cycles, a postmodern approach to writing scientifically and science in children’s literature. A half day laboratory session is structured into this workshop to de-mystify science labs and science equipment.
