Aquisitions Editor

The commercial publishing team is part of IB Publishing and develops new and exciting products for teachers and students around the world.
As part of the growth of the commercial publishing operation, an opportunity has arisen for an acquisitions editor to develop the global professional development list. The jobholder should have experience of commissioning publications - preferably in an education environment - and the ability to initiate projects and work independently. The job holder will carry out market research to identify resources which will help teachers round the world enhance the quality of their teaching and learn about good practise. The job holder will work with authors and other publishers to develop a series of professional development resources recognised for their high quality by educationalists internationally. Knowledge of the global professional development needs of teachers would be advantageous however strong commissioning skills and commercial acumen are more important.
The job holder would also be responsible for commissioning other resources specific to IB teachers and students in North and South America which achieve IB Publishing profit and revenue targets.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in a related
- Proven track record of identifying and developing publishing opportunities
- Well developed commercial awareness and judgement
- The ability to work independently and resourcefully
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a cross-functional team across geographic boundaries
- Good project management skills
- A good understanding the aims and objectives of the IB
- Experience working for an educational publishing company
- An understanding of the professional development needs of teachers around the world
- Knowledge of the IB programmes
Travel within the US and internationally and weekend working may be required.
Location
The Acquisitions Editor post will be temporarily located in the NY office and will relocate to the Washington D.C. area within 6 – 12 months or maybe be immediately located to the Washington D. C.
