Head of Diploma Programme Development Ref 409c

Salary:circa £50,000 - £60,000 per year

Closing date: 15 April 2009

This is a senior academic post responsible for leading the development of the Diploma Programme (DP) and managing the structure to support it. The ability to encourage new ideas and perspectives that may shape the future of the DP while ensuring the continued vitality, relevance, and quality of the programme is essential.  So too is the capacity to demonstrate intellectual leadership through sharing knowledge of relevant research and recent developments in education in the final years of schooling across the world. A knowledge of developments in the other IB programmes is important to ensure effective articulation. This is an exciting job that requires great vision and commitment.

The head of Diploma Programme development carries a major responsibility for the quality of the Diploma Programme in line with the organization’s strategic plan. The appointee will be expected to work closely with the IB’s heads of Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and continuum development, head of Diploma assessment, with the global heads of professional development and school services and the regional offices, and liaise with other organizations in the field.

Applicants for this post should have significant teaching experience, in-depth knowledge and experience of the Diploma Programme, hold a graduate degree and, preferably, a post-graduate degree in education. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate proven leadership and managerial skills at a senior level in an international context and have experience in curriculum and/or programme development. The ability to speak in public with authority and confidence is essential, as is an excellent command of English. The ability to work in at least one other IB language (French/Spanish/Chinese) would also be highly desirable.

This post provides a unique opportunity for a creative, innovative educator to lead the Diploma Programme into the next phase of development, within the context of the restructuring of the organization and relocation to new global centres. The post will be located initially in Cardiff but will relocate to the new IB global centre in the Netherlands in 2011.
