How the IB works with publishers and others

The IB seeks to collaborate with organizations that share similar values and goals, so that it can expand its capacity to reach an international audience for its publications, in particular to produce new ‘commercial’ publications that would not be obligatory, but which could be offered for sale to schools, teachers, students or parents.

The IB will not produce or endorse core subject textbooks that might be seen as prescribed texts for students. It will concentrate on producing additional support materials for teachers and students that fit with its holistic philosophy. As well as subject materials, it is also looking into professional development and management titles.

The IB publications group, acting on behalf of the IB, is currently looking at publishing proposals in the following areas:

  • Booklets for Diploma Programme students to use in class and in support of their revision and examination preparation. These may be study skills guides to give practice in essential skills to get the most out of the curriculum and to perform well in final examinations.
  • Professional development booklets for teachers and school administrators, such as a methodology series for experienced IB teachers and a good-practice series for heads of authorized and candidate IB schools.
  • Materials to provide PYP teachers with a bridge from the curriculum to the classroom, in workbook or graded reader format, to provide teachers with enrichment materials for pupils.
  • Cross-curricular topic-based materials to provide MYP teachers with a bridge between the state or national system and the MYP curriculum framework.

These are only ideas and the IB is open to other suggestions from publishers or organizations. Please contact the IB via publishing.proposals@ibo.org.
