Doug Sessions

“… I am a member of a truly global team whose strength is its diversity.”

Doug Sessions, Global Professional Development Business Development Manager

I joined the IB because my own child benefited from participating, and I wanted to support the organization’s ambition to extend access to its programmes to more students around the world.

I wanted to work for the IB because of the boldness in which it is pursuing its vision. It is my sincere hope that having spent half my professional life in an education environment, and the other half in the business world, I can add value to the organization’s efforts to manage the tremendous change that it has undertaken, plan for the sustainable growth of its programmes and achieve the results it desires over the next decade.

The biggest challenge of my job is that, like much of the work of the organization, it’s an exercise in cross-cultural communication. I am a member of a truly global team whose strength is its diversity.

Without a doubt the most enjoyable thing about working at the IB is its people. Working with so many like-minded, motivated people is an honour and a privilege that inspires me every day.

Chris Mannix, IB Career-related Certificate (IBCC) manager "... my job has far exceeded my expectations ..."

Chris Mannix, Curriculum Area Head of DP Hexagon Core and Head of IBCC

Working for the IB means I have the potential to make a difference in the lives of large numbers of students all around the world.

The job I applied for provided me with various challenges, not least the prioritization and organization of issues and tasks that must be dealt with on a daily basis. However, this—and working for an international organization that allows me to work with colleagues from all over the world—was very appealing when applying for the role.

"My role gives me the freedom to be creative, to think strategically and to problem-solve while adapting to cultural differences. This is a fascinating and enriching aspect of my job."

For this reason, my job has far exceeded my expectations. I have developed an international mindset that I did not have before joining the IB. The working conditions are excellent and far beyond what I expected.

Kirsten Loza, Primary Years Programme manager.

"The IB can offer many possibilities for career development for me ..."

Kirsten Loza, Primary Years Programme manager

I am the Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum manager within the academic department. I applied for this role because it offered a unique opportunity to work in international education, be involved in curriculum development and work for the IB.

I find the process of managing the development of curriculum documents engrossing. I only joined the IB a year ago; however, in that short time I have come to appreciate that the organization can offer many possibilities for career development.

The IB is also an organization that promotes well-being by instilling each individual employee with a work ethos that matches the mission of the organization and by providing a good work/life balance. I get professional satisfaction from working with my team, managing curriculum development, visiting schools and meeting PYP teachers who are excellent at what they do.

The IB offers continuous professional development. It's made up of people who try to uphold the values of the IB learner profile. It is an organization with an excellent reputation providing high quality education.
