IB Asia Pacific Newsletter
Quarter Four, 2007
South Asia
Update
Congratulations to the Podar international School and to NSS Hill Spring International School which have both been authorised to offer the PYP during the last quarter. This brings to nine, the number of PYP schools now authorised to offer the programme in India. Elsewhere in South Asia, there are only two other schools, in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh currently offering the PYP. Currently there are 40 authorised schools in India offering a total of 52 programmes. 37=DP,5=MYP and 9=PYP. Interest in the IB programmes though from India itself remains high with more than 20 schools seeking DP authorisation next year. Currently there are over 100 pipeline schools in various stages of feasibility studies and implementation in India.
IB Indian Development Council
The IBIDC met last August in Delhi and is planning to meet again in Mumbai in February to further discuss issues of University Recognition, teacher training needs, the IB’s commitment to Community Service and Access Projects in India and Academic Honesty and Intellectual Property issues.
As this group and the many representatives from schools continue to work towards improving University Recognition in Indian schools, it is imperative that schools implement rigorous internal moderation procedures to ensure the consistency and accuracy of predicted grades.
Judith Guy, the IB Regional Director, and Farzana Dohadwallah met with SAIBSA representatives at the Regional Council and discussed some initiatives that the organisation is considering to support teacher training further in India and also discussed the need for school leaders to establish a strong culture of academic honesty and integrity in IB schools in India.

University of Mumbai Acceptance Policy
In the last intake, in a very big breakthrough the University of Mumbai has granted admission to IB students who were awarded Certificates (with 24+ points) if they did not meet the conditions for securing the Diploma. Our thanks to the Registrar of the Eligibility Dept who has enabled these students to continue their education and move on with their careers.
