New Level 3 Workshop for 2009

Leading Change

In 2009 we will be introducing a new Level 3 workshop. The workshop will be a combined MYP and DP workshop which focuses on leading change in MYP and DP schools.  Please visit the IB calendar of events for further information.

Audience:  teams of experienced coordinators and administrators in authorized MYP and DP schools.

Aims:  By the end of this workshop participants should be able to:

  • Understand a variety of styles of leadership and how to apply them in different contexts
  • Apply these models to their own leadership style and the way in which they have implemented the MYP and DP programmes in their schools
  • Understand a range of strategies for developing effective teams (including working with reluctant MYP or DP teachers) in MYP and DP schools
  • Review strategic planning models and indicators of achievement used within these models as a means of developing a continuum of international education in IB World Schools
  • Lead curriculum development and programme articulation within IB schools
  • Understand and lead change in MYP and DP schools

Participants will work on developing this understanding by applying theoretical models to problem-based scenarios experienced in IB World schools.

Updates on workshop leaders training

A workshop leaders training will be held in Singapore in December 2008. There will be two more such trainings conducted in the next calendar year i.e. 2009. The number of applications for the December ‘08 training was very impressive and we would like to thank the MYP coordinators and heads of schools for nominating potential workshop leaders.

MYP Network updates

South East Asia IB educators from DP, MYP, PYP and Administration met at the IB Asia Pacific Conference in Beijing and decided to set up an online group for all three programmes including Administration. In addition, there are groups for DP, MYP and PYP Coordinators.  The intention of these groups is to share resources and ideas. If you would like to join one of these groups, please contact Chelsea Woods (myp@ishcmc.edu.vn).

The IBSCM North MYP Coordinators network had its first meeting of the year on 18 October in Beijing, and for the first time in the three-year history of the network, a representative from the International School of Ulaanbaatar was able to join us in person, which was a great pleasure!  The two main agenda items were organizing network job-alikes and choosing a theme for the network's annual AOI Festival.  Four job-alikes have been set for the year: AOI Leaders (November); Technology (March); Languages A that are not English (March); Mathematics (April). The AOI Festival is set for 27-28 February 2009, and the theme will be the IB's Community Theme "Sharing Our Humanity."

- Barbara Wrightson IBMYP Coordinator, International School of Tianjin

The East Asia MYP Network Group meeting took place at K. International School, Tokyo on 30 October 2008. The network group has decided to set up an online space for exchanging information.

The network discussed the following items:

  • Monitoring and documenting Areas of Interaction student learning expectations
  • Horizontal and vertical planning in schools
  • Student exchange
  • Community workshops and job alike sessions
  • Using the new guide MYP: From Principles into Practice

The Network group will be holding a job-alike session for Design Technology during the next meeting to be held on 15 May 2009.
