New resources
http://www.ibo.org/ibap/ gives you access to a new resource on the IB Asia Pacific website which is designed to assist you in your strategic planning for IB professional development. In the right hand column on the website you will find "PD: Unpacking the Standards and Practices". Here you can download a document that will unpack the IB Standards and Practices in regard to professional development. It also contains links to related resources documenting the range of IB-approved, IB-related and non-IB PD activities available to help your school meet its specific professional development needs. We hope these resources will help you in your professional development planning.   Ed Lawless, Professional Development Officer, IBAP

IB School librarians workshop in Singapore March 2009

The IB has announced a PILOT workshop to be held in Singapore in March 2009.

http://ibo.org/events/libsing01/

You need to register to indicate to the IB that School librarians need and want training in working with this dynamic curriculum, and to give us a more visible 'official' role.

There are only 60 places available for this conference in Singapore, but if there is enough interest they will conduct workshops in other regions/countries. Register your interest as soon as you can. Talking about advocacy...here is your chance to make a difference to your own profession.

Best wishes
For Christmas, other festivals, holidays and the next quarter.

AAIBS

Welcome to the 2009 AAIBS Conference

Registrations are now open via the website at:

http://www.sapro.com.au/AAIBS.htm

Set in Adelaide from  Friday 17 April to Sunday 19 April 2009, our annual conference (followed by a series of IB Asia Pacific  workshops) will be an outstanding opportunity for educators from interested, candidate and authorized IB schools to meet, share ideas and network.

As there is no IB Asia Pacific regional conference in 2009, our conference provides an ideal opportunity for all IB teachers and leaders to gather together.

The conference theme “Human Ingenuity: Pedagogy for the 21st Century Learner” captures the intent of inquiry learning of the Primary Years Programme, the interdisciplinary areas of interaction of the Middle Years Programme and the research focus of the DP, bound together through the daily themes from the IB learner profile; Inquirers and Thinkers (Saturday) and Communicators and Risk Takers (Sunday).

An exceptional range of key note speakers will address the theme:

  • Dr Greg Whitby, Executive Director of Schools for the Parramatta Catholic Education Office
  • Professor Martin Westwell, Director: Flinders Centre for Science Education in the 21st Century Flinders University in Adelaide
  • Dr Dale Spender, author and educational consultant
  • Marty Gauvin, entrepreneur and businessman
  • Malcolm Nicholson, Head of Middle Years Programme from IB, Cardiff

In addition to the key note speakers, and a strong representation from the IB Asia Pacific office, classroom teachers and school leaders will be presenting.  With over 24 separate breakout sessions on offer, focusing on pedagogy of the PYP, MYP and DP and specific sessions for leaders, the organizing committee has provided learning opportunities for all participants.

The conference will commence with sessions tailored specifically for interested and candidate schools. These sessions will be conducted by experienced IB educators and IB Asia Pacific personnel, providing the opportunity for schools to explore the introduction and development of each of the programmes.

The conference will officially open with a cocktail party at the Wine Centre on 17 April 2009. Another social highlight will be the sumptuous conference dinner accompanied by premium South Australian wines on 18 April evening.

We look forward to seeing you all in Adelaide.

Chair, AAIBS

AIBSIJK

The AIBSIJK originated as an association for Heads and Diploma Programme coordinators to meet to exchange information. With the introduction of the MYP and PYP, the association has evolved into a larger organization with the three programme groups (PYP, MYP and DP) meeting separately for programme-specific meetings. All IB World Schools in Japan and Korea (with Taiwan schools now guests and pending official acceptance) are automatically granted membership. The programme groups are generally open to candidate and interested schools. Please refer to the association website for more details.
