Committee update

The IB Asia-Pacific LIS committee has been liaising with the IB Asia-Pacific Regional office in regards to a number of items that were raised by members at the Hong Kong meeting in July 2005.

On 3 August three members of the committee (Jane, Yvonne and Anthony) had a conference call with IB Asia-Pacific Regional Director, Judith Guy and Teacher Education Manager, Ed Lawless. Discussion was held regarding the upcoming 2007 Teachers Convention on Information Literacy to be held in Singapore in late March. We also discussed the directions for IB Teacher Librarians including the possibilities of workshops and guidelines for IB school libraries. Ed Lawless will be travelling to Cardiff in August and will raise these issues at the IB meeting.

The conference call was invaluable as it allowed everyone to discuss some of the issues that have been on our agenda from the Hong Kong conference. We will inform you of any development in our next newsletter article and would like you to contribute to discussion via the OCC.

Our main aim is to provide support for teacher librarians in IB schools within our region which in turn will contribute to enhancing student learning outcomes.

Over these last three months, Yvonne Barrett (Singapore) and Anthony Tilke (Japan) have made an exceptional commitment to improving communication for teacher librarians and library staff in IB Schools. They have significantly contributed to email discussions, posted items on the OCC and continued to support IB Asia-Pacific LIS members. Thanks to Yvonne Barrett and Anthony Tilke.
