PYP Workshops

Owing to the increased demand for diversified PYP professional development, there have been new developments for workshops.

In 2007, there will be two distinct PYP General Introduction Workshops:

1. General Introduction for Administrators and PYP Coordinators

2. General Introduction for Teachers

These workshops will cater to schools ‘new’ to PYP and take the place of the generic “Introductory One Workshop”.

Another workshop that has been adapted is the “Internationalism” in the PYP Workshop which is now known as “Global Perspectives”.  In 2007, an E-Learning workshop will also offered.

As you will notice from the 2007 workshop calendar, we have endeavoured to ensure that there are a variety of workshops throughout the Asia Pacific region to cater to the needs of the schools.  Next year there are ten venues offering Regional Workshops.  These workshops will take place in South East Asia, South Asia, East Asia and Australasia ensuring that workshops are available in all sub regions within Asia Pacific.

Please do check the 2007 International Baccalaureate Asia Pacific Workshop and Events Calendar on IB Asia-Pacific Events Calendar.

Eligibility for Workshops

As you are all aware, to attend workshops at a Regional level, there is no longer the requirement to have attended an Introductory workshop. The requirements for attendance at workshops other than General Introduction and Beginning to Make the PYP Happen are either previous attendance at a regional workshop or participation in an in-school workshop.

Whilst this is the case there are still criteria for workshops based on experience, time in the PYP programme and development of PYP documentation.  It is vital that when registering for Regional Workshops, participants and coordinators look at the criteria to ensure that they are eligible.  The guidelines for criteria are on the workshop descriptors.  http://www.ibo.org/ibap/workshops/

Professional Development

Please note that if you are planning to use IB Asia-Pacific workshop leaders to assist with the PYP professional development in the school, it is protocol and vital that the request is directed to the Regional Office.  There are a variety of professional development opportunities that schools can be involved in, including in school workshops and consultation visits.

In each case a request form must be filled in http://www.ibo.org/ibap/pyp/ and sent to the Regional Office.

Whilst schools may request a particular workshop leader, please understand that placement of workshop leaders for these visits and workshops depend on a variety of factors. We look carefully at the needs of the school and the expertise of the workshop leaders when allocating workshop leaders.  It is not appropriate for schools to make prior arrangements and contact with workshop leaders prior to sending the request form.

We hope that those of you who have been on school break have returned from a wonderful holiday and rest.

Thank you all for your support in the past year and we look forward to working with you further.

Welcome

Mignon Weckert

For the past twenty-five years I have been involved in teaching students from five to twelve years of age, curriculum writing for state and national education organisations, professional development implementation, the role of adviser to schools and currently as PYP coordinator and assistant principal at Immanuel Primary School in Adelaide South Australia. During the past three years I have also facilitated PYP in-school and regional workshops throughout the Asia Pacific region in my role as a PYP workshop presenter as well as visiting schools for preliminary, preauthorisation and authorisation visits. I am also a member of the IBCA PYP committee. When not involved with work or travelling around the AP region, I enjoy spending time with my children Nathan and Alexandra, husband Peter and golden retriever Wallace. I love working out in the gym and keeping fit, spending time with friends, reading, movies and am a passionate supporter and member of the ‘Aussie Rules’ football team Port Adelaide. I am extremely excited about joining the IB Asia-Pacific team as one of the associate regional managers and to the challenges and joys of working together with schools in their journey with the Primary Years Programme.
