Glenunga International High School (Glenunga IHS), now widely regarded as one of the best public schools in South Australia, was founded in 1898 as Adelaide Technical High School.

Glenunga, the Aboriginal name by which the area was known prior to European settlement in the 1840s, developed into a celebrated sheep-ranching centre. Indeed, our school is built on the site once occupied by the abattoir complex. In the second half of the twentieth century, Adelaide attracted considerable immigration and Glenunga developed as a desirable residential suburb to the east of the city. Such is the cosmopolitan nature of the city today that some 65 nationalities are represented on our school’s student body. By 1964 our school had outgrown its original campus and relocated, changing its name to Glenunga High School ten years later. We adopted our current name in 1992 following the school’s authorization to teach the Diploma Programme in 1989.
