Collaborations with other publishers
This IB Publications Group is now engaged in developing a number of new commercial publications (available for sale outside of the current fee structure) in collaboration with external publishers.
Development of commercial publications will seek coherence and alignment with the IB ethos and brand, and will therefore initially build out of IB teaching and assessment expertise.
At the heart of this work, is a commitment to providing pertinent, high quality and value for money publications for all IB World Schools. Meeting the needs of our customers is key to all publications group activity and is illustrated through our guiding principles.
Guiding principles
All new commercial publications will:
- strengthen the international dimension of IB programmes and promulgate the values and
practices of international education - be applicable to all IB regions
- avoid promoting the notion of a single central orthodoxy
- reflect the underlying IB approach to international education and respect the integrity of its
programmes - avoid over-prescription and respect teachers' freedom and flexibility in choosing how to teach
- be written by reputable authors drawn from the widest possible international base
- draw examples and case studies from across the international IB community
- where commercially viable, be published in all of the IB’s languages of instruction.
Working with other publishers
In this phase of commercial publishing, the IB Publications Group will, on certain projects, work in partnership with proven educational publishing companies that have the necessary commissioning resources and expertise, as well as the international sales and marketing reach.
No single partner will be selected, but rather publishing partners will be identified for selected projects or series of projects on an individual basis.
Currently the IB Publications Group has agreements with:
- John Catt Educational Limited, a UK-based publisher and supplier for international schools, with
experience in directory publishing, for the IB World Schools Yearbook - Oxford University Press, a UK-based publisher with international reach through subsidiaries and
regional offices, for the IB DP student course companion series.
