A unique opportunity
The IB World Student Conferences are, in a very real sense, staging areas for the world’s leaders of tomorrow.
Working together in a creative, active environment, IB Diploma Programme students from around the world will work through innovative solutions to global issues. Moreover, through their work sessions, recreation and local side trips, they will build meaningful, lasting relationships, as well as develop international understanding and leadership skills that will benefit them the rest of their lives.
The Experience
According to the Wall Street Journal, a recent study of 35,000 peer-reviewed papers by Isaac Kohane of Harvard Medical School showed that the best papers were produced by teams working within 30 feet of one another—people who are not interacting long distance via computer.
This is an opportunity for students to learn the value of such face-to-face problem-solving—even in today’s social media world.
Each IB World Student Conference will have a focus with a programme constructed around it. Speakers from around the world will challenge students with real, significant global issues. Working in discussion teams, students will develop creative ways to address the problems posed by conference leaders and propose solutions to these issues in the form of creativity, action, service (CAS) projects. And, using the Global Engage website, they will be able to continue with these CAS projects long after the conference has concluded.

Of course, students will develop leadership skills and have the opportunity to interact with university faculty and world-renowned speakers representing a wide variety of disciplines and areas of expertise. These skills and experiences will be put to work almost immediately as students create action plans for CAS projects.
